Impressionable individuals usually lack a good sense of self and a clear idea of their own identity and character. They are stimulated by their environment and are believed to be easy to fool into following trends and changes in society. Marketing executives have learnt the psychology behind the triggering effects of mass influence. The idea of impressionable individuals is not in smaller fractions, but rather based on the idea of how the majority thinks.
Impressionability can be easily deciphered, an individual who is impressed. If one is easily impressed by gold and glamour, their influence will forever lay, whilst their character will forever follow, those who have the gold and glamour to act a certain way. This means even if an individual does not possess the criteria, he/she may still possess the characteristics due to the influence they have garnered.
The Kardashians have achieved a great fortune from this particle that exists within the human brain. They have exploited the cosmetics industry solely on the basis of their false claim to fame, which later became a claim to fortune. Now many follow suit and believe these individuals to have the secrets to attaining similar successes in life.
Americanism, the selling of a dream, the concrete jungle, the fast food, fast life, and Hollywood, has been the greatest tool on impressionable populations. Netanyahu was once quoted saying that why bother engaging in war with Iran, when one can solely transmit American television and false glamour to ruin their social thought processes. Youngsters with little faith in themselves and low in character value, usually fall prey to such concepts, that later on become to be known as trends.
Trends have led many cultural nations to follow concepts that are inapplicable to different places. Similar to Rosenhan’s research “Sane in Insane Places”, whereby stating where one person may be normal in one area of the world, may be considered abnormal in another area of the world.
The Asian continent is infested with the urge and superiority of Americanism. The self-taught American accents, American trends of coffee and much more, have become the identity of many within Asia. The growth of media power to be able to advocate for American “culture” to be dominant, has led to a great population within Asia to follow suit. The problem with this is, Asia in itself possesses the greatest cradle of civilizations, and ignores them, for new found lands.
This grows in greater concern when ideologies are then exposed to people who don’t understand them. Feminism may be an issue around the world, but it triggered traditional minds after wrongly influencing a stagnant population. When television promoted the idea of divorce to be normal, led people to pursue divorces as if it were the right thing to do, only to realize they have made massive mistakes in their decisions. This does not ignore the few who truly should pursue separation, but in certain cases separation has become a norm, leading to diminish cultural and personal responsibilities.
This goes on to the imposition of the LGBTQ rights. If one nation is not in favor of this, then there is no need to push them in that direction. However, the growth in number of homosexuals and trans people ever since this movement became a trend, has increased by at least 32%. This is a strange case, for why weren’t these people homosexuals prior to these ideologies becoming a trend?
The problem that occurs is that impressionable individuals fall prey to ideologies that serve no one. They are merely marketed well. Most ideologies are accepted, with little to no understanding of what the fight is for. For example feminism has been a wave around the world, whereas the Arab and South Asian world has seen strong female leaders in its history, warriors who have won wars for their nations. Then why is their a need to follow a trend that is inapplicable to a culture? The worst part is, when cultures fall prey, a nation looses ground and becomes inferior to the ideologies and interests of trends of others. In this process they lose their people to a vision of nowhere.
